Good Morning!

Welcome to my pre morning ritual. My prior blogs talked about the kick flip & the mindset. But, now I would like to walk you through some other points that make a good session + mindset. So, first things first!

Difficult tricks in surfing seem to be the ingredients of today’s surfer & hot new tour rookie. That said, I came across the newest issue of Surfer mag where questions were asked of surf phenom Jordy Smith & others - questions that seem to get me thinking these guys have hit the surfing apex roof. Like, "We can only go bigger!” etc.

But, don't get your heads wrapped around that kind of media. This sport has not hit the roof yet. Just come hang for a day with me, you will know what I am talking about.

The Kick Flip proves to me we are just at the beginning of surfing's progression. Can you imagine a kick flip ally opp? I sure can, and you can bet your ass I’m dreaming it when I sleep…

Alright! Some more blogging…

Today was sick! Winds, swell… everything was perfect. I also received a call from my friend Dawson, who is a filmmaker. He mentioned he had a project and had me in mind for it. His idea/project had to do with my winching background, and he said that the Built 2 Shred show’s crew on Fuel TV liked his idea. So for now that’s all I know, and already the anticipation is building up. If you have seen anything Jeff King has done on that show (Built 2 Shred), you'll know what I am talking about. We’re gonna do something sick… I know it! But, today’s session was unreal. Just working on my amplitude!!

Last post I was prepping my mindset for the trick, (Kick Flip).

Compared to skateboarders, wake-skaters etc. Surfers have a set of four inch fins that could & will given the chance slice through your skin like butter. That said, its a Death Trick!

Being a board rider, my other board sports, I have been able to kick flip. Yet, something is eluding me to flipping a 5 foot 20 inch wide board w/ 4 inch fins.  Like why is it spinning so slow? Oh God, I am going to eat this fin etc!

So why is it in surfing all things hazardous are all  but avoided? Maybe, surfers chose the sport due to its low impact & non injury low rate. Could be.. Yep, for sure!

But with this trick the kick flip. You jump straight into the fire into the jetty of rocks.

At least that was my first thoughts...

So, what I have learned is this. It's just like all the other aspects in life. You gotta work at it to be good & sometimes it might take a little more technique/effort to achieve.

So to be ready for the next session I picked up a set of Viking horns to hit the trick head on.

First time for everything & thus my blogging begins.

Today its all about working on my mindset. Recently I took on the challenge of pulling the kick flip in surfing. My sessions have been really close at about 85% pulled & I feel I am right on it. Its just gonna take the right section & speed. So my thinking pattern is consumed with its technique right now.  People in the past two years have prod to ask the question why are you not giving it a go?

My answer to them is this: There's a time & place for everything. Its up to me & only me. When that time/interest arises & feel it in me to accomplish it. Just because a brand throws money on a trick does not kick that mode on in me. It has to come from with in & have purpose.  As for wright now I am hanging with my Dad where all the ideas start, (THE SHAPING ROOM)!
